What is Pilates?
Pilates is a gentle excercise class that will guide you through a series of exercises designed to strengthen and stretch all the major muscles and joints, but focusing on your back and core. My classes are designed to benefit everybody- I have had clients from ages 16-86 in class at the same time! Generally my participants are mature ladies and gents, who love feeling the changes in their bodies after a good stretch! I always adjust the exercises based on who is in the class, and whatever injuries they are currently working with. Pilates offers numerous benefits, including improved core strength, flexibility, and posture. This low-impact exercise method is effective for injury prevention and rehabilitation, helping to strengthen the body evenly. Additionally it's a lot of fun!!
Benefits of pilates include:
- improved balance
- improved flexibility
- increased core strength
- a strong and supple spine
- improved coordination
Not to mention meeting some lovely local people!

— About Sharon
Your Pilates experience will vary from instructor to instructor. Sharon has been teaching movement in some form since her very first jobs as an assistant gymnastics coach back in 1988.....
Although that doesn't influence her practice so much these days. She qualified as a fitness instructor and personal trainer in 2006, teaching freestyle aerobics, step, bar, and hip hop classes for gyms in Perth, Western Australia.
"Pregnancy and big heavy babies led me to my first pilates class with a physio in 2011. This was life changing for me. I realised that even as a PT, I didn't have the tools I needed to rebuild my core properly, and I was suffering back and shoulder pain from unbalanced posture and poor core strength (diastasis anybody?!). I began to take regular mat classes (being a gymnast the mat speaks to me!) and was soon hooked, and realised I needed to study pilates and qualify as an instructor."
